Tags Overview
Tags are flexible labels you can apply to transactions across Trovata’s platform. You can use tags in any way that fits your business needs, without limits on how many tags you can assign to a transaction. This flexibility allows each team or group in your organization to create their own tagging system without affecting others.
Tag Delta in Reports
The Tag Delta feature within Reports ensures every transaction is tagged uniquely and accurately. It helps you quickly identify and fix any tagging overlap issues, so your reports stay reliable and consistent. This feature can be turned on in the config menu for any report that is Grouped by: Tags.
Tag Delta Use Cases
Tag Delta is especially helpful for
👉 Validating Tags During Onboarding: Ensures the high-level tags you set up don’t overlap and can be trusted on all related reports.
👉 Ongoing Tag Maintenance: Keep a Tag Delta report handy after onboarding to periodically review and resolve overlapping tags or uncategorized transactions that might appear over time. By using Tag Delta regularly, you’ll maintain clean and dependable tagging for all your reporting needs.
Getting Started
1) Click Reports then New Report. Alternatively, Click Analysis from the side navigation menu. This will open a Transactions based analysis by default.
2) Create a TQL statement that includes 2 or more tags that you'd like to report on.
3) Group the report by "Tags".
4) Then toggle on "Tag Delta" under the group by selection.
Using Tag Delta to Fix Overlapping Tags
When Tag Delta is enabled, your report’s data table will help you identify and resolve tagging issues with a few visual elements.
A caution icon ⚠️ appears next to the value in the total row if one or more tags are applied to the same transaction, causing the total for that period to be inflated.
Expand the Totals Row to Triage
Unique Total: The correct total, representing the sum of all unique transactions for the period (with no tag overlaps).
Tag Delta: The difference between the calculated Total and the Unique Total, highlighting any discrepancies.
In the example above, the top two tags are duplicates, meaning they both tag the same transactions, leading to an inflated total.
Resolving Discrepancies in the Tag Delta
To fix tagging discrepancies at the transaction level
1. Click the Tag Delta Value - This will open a dialog showing all transactions with overlapping tags in the report. Each transaction includes a number on the left, indicating how many tags overlap.
2. Review and Resolve Overlaps - For each transaction, you can choose one of the following methods to remove the overlapping tags:
Option A: Manually Remove Tags - Open the metadata of the transaction to see it's tag list. Click a highlighted tag, then select "Remove". This update may take a couple of seconds to process.
Option B: Adjust Tag Criteria - Update the tag criteria to automatically prevent overlaps in the future. To do this, open the metadata of the transaction to see it's tag list. Click a highlighted tag, then select "Edit" to make changes to the tag parameters. This update may take a couple of minutes to process.
Takeaway
All discrepancies are resolved in a given report when the calculated Total equals the Unique Total and the Tag Delta equals 0.00. By resolving these discrepancies, you’ll ensure your tagging is accurate and your reports are reliable.
